Session 1: Friday 18:00-21:00

Healthy Spine & Hips and Fundamentals of Inversions: Asana, Pranayama and Meditation

All levels of experience are welcome since there will be abundant modifications and elemental building asana taught.  This Friday evening session will have three segments built in:

The first segment will focus on Fundamentals of Inversions. Inversions can be one of the most rewarding parts of an asana practice.  They are often intimidating or mysterious. Headstands can change your life (Ross will explain how in class), but doing them safely is paramount. Ross’ therapeutic expertise will give you the tools you need to practice these and other inversions, safely, progressively and eventually masterfully.  The class will include a short flow sequence to warm up.  We will then work on Forearm-stand, Headstand and Shoulderstand.

The class will then build into our second segment: healthy spine and hips. If there’s one thing we can all agree upon, it’s how miserable back pain is.  For the last 10 years Ross has focused on helping students around the world heal their own back pain and develop postural patterns to stay healthy.  Clearly, back pain gets in the way of our daily life but it can also be a huge impediment to a consistent meditation practice.

Our third segment will be meditation and pranayama. The practice of meditation is often heralded as the crown jewel of yoga for great reason. The list of benefits is profound: a way to find some peace, a method of understanding our deepest self, a strategy to navigate the difficulties of modern life with awareness and wisdom, and many more.  The challenges of meditation, however, are real: persistent practice, doubt and disappointment along the way, and simply the difficulty of shifting away from powerful habit of mind and body. We will explore how to plant the seeds for a life-long meditation practice.  We will dive into the relationship between the body and the mind, particularly in how our body postural patterns can help us energetically with meditation and with the practical aspect of sitting comfortably for sustained periods of time.

All students are welcome to attend.

Session 2&3: Saturday 10:00-13:00 & 14:30-17:30

BioVinyasa: Anatomy Visuals and Asana Flow-Class Combined!

One of the keys to a sophisticated yoga practice is our ability to “see” our own bodies accurately (our interoception) and then develop the skill to move specific parts of our body (our proprioception).

Yoga teachers often include anatomical references in their instructions, but the gap is often wide between hearing the instruction and accessing/moving that body part.

In BioVinyasa, Ross will project anatomical images and visuals from an interactive anatomy app of various bones, muscles and connective tissue.  He then leads the class through a sequence of poses related to the highlighted anatomy.

You’ll be amazed at what a difference it makes to view the anatomy, visualize it internally and then feel it right away in your own body.

The class is open to all levels and is highly encouraged for both teachers and students interested deepening their alignment knowledge and overall practice.

Session 2: Saturday 10:00-13:00

BioVinyasa – Anatomy of the Shoulders and Upper Back

Anatomy visuals woven into a flow class with an emphasis on the Shoulders and Upper Back. We will also explore how to elevate your handbalancings with a focus on handstands.  Handstands can be fun rather than scary if built on solid technique. We will also be exploring fundamental backbends along with the discovery of the shoulders and upper back.

Session 3: Saturday 14:30-17:30

BioVinyasa – Anatomy of the Low Back, Hips and Legs

Anatomy visuals woven into a flow class with an emphasis on lower back, hips and legs. We will explore how to get deeper into hip openers, thigh stretches, forward bends with an understanding of our own physical body and expanding our limitations through that understanding.
