THURSDAY “Yoga Basics” at 9:00-10:30 with Stacy
Are you keen to give yoga a try but feel intimidated in a regular public class? Or maybe it’s been a while since you were on your mat and you’d like a review? Perhaps your doctor has recommended gentle yoga for an issue in the knee, hip, back, shoulder? Would you like to demystify terms like asana and pranayama?

Then YOGA BASICS is for you!

This class will introduce the fundamentals of yoga in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. With special focus on foundations and alignment, we will break down the elements of the most common poses and then put them together in a slow flow. All of the benefits of the movements are made accessible to every body with a generous use of props (bolsters, blocks, straps, blankets, chairs) to support and deepen the practice.

THURSDAY “Yoga – Yin & Yang” at 19:35-21:05 with Mary
Yin & Yang Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice - bringing together the benefits of passively holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences and standing postures. Combining both Yin and Yang elements in one class provides a balanced practice and has a powerful effect on your energy levels. The class starts more dynamically with Yang to warm and loosen the body and finishes with Yin that will leave you feeling relaxed, grounded and calms the nervous system.

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. When these terms are applied to yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where poses are passively held for longer, working on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga, in contrast, refers to a more active practice working on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility.
